How much does 3D printing cost in Bogotá

Hardly anyone publishes their 3D printing prices: it is all «write to us for a quote». Here are ours, taken from 17 real parts we sliced with the same profiles we print with, and what those figures teach about when printing gets expensive and when it stays cheap.

How the price adds up

The price of a filament print comes from two measurable things: the material the part uses, counted in grams and including the support that gets thrown away at the end, and the hours the printer spends making it. Both come from slicing the file, which means running it through the program that cuts it into layers and plans the nozzle path, so neither is a guess.

On top of that there is a minimum of COP 25,000 per order. Every job needs the same work whatever its size: checking the file, placing it on the plate, watching the first layer, taking it off, removing the support and checking the part. That work is the same for a washer as for a lid, and the minimum covers it.

Six real parts, with their price

These are parts we designed for our own projects, sliced in ASA, the plastic we use by default, with the shop profile. The price is what the quote tool gives with those figures:

Of the 17 parts we sliced, 16 land on the minimum, and among them is an 18 cm lid that spends two and a half hours on the printer. Only the rail, at eight hours, goes over it. In filament, a size that fits in the hand barely moves the price; what moves it is the hours of the big parts.

The easiest way to pay less: order parts together

Since the minimum is per order and not per part, ordering several together costs much less than ordering them one by one. The first five parts in the table, ordered separately, would pay five minimums: COP 125,000. In a single order they pay the material and the hours of all of them: between COP 29,000 and 40,000.

The same goes for copies. If you need ten units of the same part, the quote tool fits as many as each plate holds and charges the printer start-up once per plate, not once per part.

What else moves the price

• Printer hours. A big or very tall part spends more time on the machine, and that weighs more than the plastic.
• Support. Overhanging parts need scaffolding that is printed and thrown away. We orient every part to use as little support as possible, which is why the final price can come in under the quote tool's, since the tool takes the part as it sits in the file.
• Material. ASA withstands sun and heat and is our default; PLA prints faster but only works indoors. Which one suits your part is in the materials guide.
• Resin. Fine detail or thin walls that flex are printed in resin, which is quoted by hand because it depends on how many parts fit in the vat and on the washing and curing.
• Modeling. If you do not have the file, the part has to be designed first from a photo or a few measurements, and that work is added to the quote.

If it already exists, it costs less

What is already in the shop has its file made and tested, so it does not pay the minimum of a custom job: the Pulgar, the page holder that sits on your thumb, costs COP 22,000, and the Braille Room Kit brings 16 plates for COP 89,000. Jewelry is another world, because it is cast in silver: the Hinge Ring starts at COP 290,000.

How long it takes

A printed object is ready in 2 days at most from payment confirmation. The price we give you is the total for the part; shipping, if any, is separate and we tell you before you pay.

How it was measured: each part was sliced in ASA, PETG and PLA with the profiles we use on the printer, 51 slices in all, and the quote tool was fitted to those figures. The hours and grams in the table come from the slicer, not from a rough estimate.
